Derek, R.I.P.

From an e-mail from Fr. Daniel:
Mr. Derek Wood passed away at his home on Saturday, Nov. 26. As we commend his soul to God, let us also support Joanne through this time of grieving and transition. Further information regarding Burial Services and Wake will be forth coming.

“O GOD, whose mercies cannot be numbered; Accept our prayers on behalf of the soul of thy servant departed, and grant him an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of thy saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (BCP, 334)
Oh, no! We knew Derek had been failing, but... not this soon.

Please put Joanne in your prayers.

I saw Joanne in church on Sunday morning and I knew instantly that she had lost Derek. It was a long and sometimes frustrating battle for a definitive diagnosis. The many treatments did little but extend his life. Derek was an intelligent man with a very tender heart. Another man of few words, his "British" sense of humour added dimension to our little parish family. The last time I saw Derek come forward in church was for a blessing on their wedding anniversary. I will miss seeing them together.

Father in Heaven, look with mercy upon Derek and hold him in your everlasting embrace. Grant to Joanne the peace that passes understanding and as she grieves, draw her close to your loving heart. In Jesus' name I pray. AMEN.
