Prayer, Pastries and (work) Party

As had been announced, today led off with Morning Prayer/Holy Communion, followed by a breakfast and then a work party. More than simply "pastries" we had quiche, bagels and other items (which yours truly had to beg off on due to intestinal upsets -- not likely related to recent travel), followed by work parties.

The first thing I noted was that some of the flowers on the walkway had been replaced sometime in the past couple of weeks, by our mysterious "flower person." Instead of the really bright flowers we'd had before, now there were flowers with more autumn-like colors.

Finally, we made progress on our presentation from the road (Avondale Rd.) by cutting down the blackberries and other weeds in preparation for improvements in the appearance of our property. We have a lot of work ahead, but right now we're ahead of plan.

Looks nice! I love to see church grounds receiving TLC. It reflects a well-deserved respect for the consecrated space (space set aside for Godly purposes only) inside the building.

(BTW, where I come from, blackberries ain't weeds, they's good eatin'!)

Agreed on the grounds! I think I had noted on this blog a while back that we are looking at restoring a natural setting with native plants.

I don't know whether blackberries are native here or not, but they're very invasive and nasty ("organic barbed-wire" an acquaintance called them) and extremely hard to get rid of.

With all the 'organic barbed-wire' around our property, does that make it the Blackberry Curtain?

Onward and upward with our native plant landscaping!

Hmmm... "Blackberry Curtain"... my first thought was of a device to jam cellphones in church, but I guess that's not what you meant.
